Have this underlay in the personal items of 1. Lt. St.Onge. Marked with his initials as he did with some of his items and uniforms. Think it`s not a military item, found the Meyer-marked "5 in 1" here in the forum, and two other variants in the books "GI Collector`s Guide" Volume 1 and Volume 2, the Meyer one, too. The one I own is 4,8 inch x 2,83 inch. Distance between the middle of one hole to middle of the next is 1,53 inch. Is this common for a US uniform? As you can see he used all 3 holes for polishing.

The ones I see are private purhase items and sold by compamies that cater to the military.

Your veteran being an officer would most likely purchased this as officers bought much of their items.

Wow! Your images really brought back memories.

I used to own one of these gadgets, it was made of brass and dated back to sometime in the mid to late 1800's.

I wish I could recall the manufacturing stamp information, but thanks anyway for the trip down memory lane.

Thanks Doyler! Often forgott this fact.

R.Watkins, the one I own looks old, too. Seems they had a long lifetime.

But is here anyone who has the dimensions of the Meyer "5 in 1"?
