stratasfan Posted June 27, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2016 Hi, Guys! Quick question for anyone who knows about Coast Guard dog tags. My Grampa served in the CG from 1947-1968. What would his dog tags have looked like? He was enlisted from 1947-1958, and then in 1958, he became an officer. Would his tags have changed? (He passed away in 2007 and he had gotten rid of his military stuff way before - he lamented that as long as we knew him! So I can't even ask Gramma!) Thanks for any help! stratasfan Posted June 28, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted June 28, 2016 Oh, thanks! I didn't know if the Coast Guard used Army shaped ones or Navy shaped ones. He became a Chief Petty Officer in 1964 . . . would he have had to change tags, as his service number changed then? This is a cool one, as it has info that I bet I can find out so I could get repros made eventually. Quick question . . . the bottom line, I assume that "A Pos" is the blood type. What is "Cath" for? Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it!
CNY Militaria Posted June 28, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 28, 2016 A Pos is the blood type, Cath is indeed Catholic.
stratasfan Posted June 28, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted June 28, 2016 +sheepish grin+ Why didn't I think of that? Now I feel silly! thanks so much! OK. I could figure out that info. Thanks! I do have both service numbers, so maybe it would be cool to get repros made of both dog tags, assuming he would have had new ones once he became an officer. As his number changed, you'd assume he would get new tags. . .
