63 RECON Posted June 20, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2016 hi all, I am lucky enough to be the new owner of this ERDL Jungle Jacket and in country made silver bracelet which belonged to retired Special Forces Lt Col Frederic J. G. Caristo. Frederic Caristo spent eight years in Vietnam, serving with the BDQs, Phoenix Program and SOG where he was integral to the development of STRATA. He was awarded among others a DSC for his part in a POW rescue attempt, Bronze Star w/valor device and 3 oak leaf clusters. Below is a link to his DSC citation. http://valor.militarytimes.com/recipient.php?recipientid=4897

63 RECON Posted June 20, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted June 20, 2016 Caristo's solid silver in country made bracelet which weighs about 12 ounces, it has a great latch and either Thai or Vietnamese writing on the side. If anyone can translate it I would be very appreciative.

wxl155 Posted June 22, 2016 Share #13 Posted June 22, 2016 Great addition to your SF collection. Any information on when merrow edge subdued color SSI was adopted? late 60s or early 70s?
63 RECON Posted June 22, 2016 Author Share #14 Posted June 22, 2016 Was it around 1969/1970 that subdued insignia completely replaced full colour?
63 RECON Posted June 22, 2016 Author Share #15 Posted June 22, 2016 Caristo is listed as a Major in late '71 as part of a MEDT-C team so this shirt would have to be 69/
Andrei Posted June 22, 2016 Share #16 Posted June 22, 2016 I think that SF were among the first to have merrowed edged subdued patches.
M60 Driver Posted June 27, 2016 Share #17 Posted June 27, 2016 The Thai writing is simply a transliteration of his name, Caristo, in Thai.

firefighter Posted October 11, 2016 Share #25 Posted October 11, 2016 Great pictures. The one pic looks like he was in CID. I like the one of him in, I assume, Thailand.Looks like he's wearing an ARVN Ranger beret.
