pathfinder505 Posted June 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2016 I went to a reunion today of some WWII vets from the 483rd AAA Automatic Weapons Bn. They were an army unit attached to the Marines. They were guarding the airfield on Iwo Jima. They were to land the 20th of February the day after the initial invasion but were delayed trying to get on the beach. Three vets attended the reunion with families. There were two more vets not able to attend who visited by Skype. They were all 92 or 93 years old. I had a great time hearing their stories and seeing the pictures they brought. All of them saw the flag raising on Mt. Suribachi. There were several vets who had passed away but the families still attended. This was their 59th reunion.
