Brian Keith Posted June 17, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2016 Hello, I am curating a show of paintings of mostly Civil War era Generals. The artist, Alexander Lawrie, painted from photographs or existing images. When he died in 1917, he left two unfinished works and one apparently finished, but unnamed. We would love to be able to identify these three Generals. If you have an image of a CW era Federal General that matches any of these three please let us know. Lawrie was a resident of the Indiana State Soldiers Home, in Lafayette, IN and painted 167 works between 1905 and 1917. Upon his death, they were a bequest to the Soldiers Home, now called the Indiana Veterans Home. They are still property of the State of Indiana and about 50 will be exhibited this summer at the Ft. Wayne Museum of Art. I posted a few installation photos here: Thanks so much for you kind consideration. Brian K. Williamson Ft. Wayne Museum of Art, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The Alexander Lawrie: A Master Portraitist in Indiana show will be presented by the Ft. Wayne Museum of Art, (Ft. Wayne, IN) opening June 5- Aug. 21, 2016.
