Greg Robinson Posted February 10, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 10, 2007 In the late 1950's my brother bought a CUSHMAN "EAGLE" motorcycle. Yours is the first time I've another made by that company. I don't really see a combat application for it....looks like something a courier would use. Greg
kfields Posted February 10, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 10, 2007 That is a nice scooter ! Is that a vintage WW2 scooter or does the "Model 54" designate the year ? As you can tell, I don't know much about them. I live near the Wright Pat Air Force museum and they do have one on display in their airborne section. I have an original photo of what I think is a Cushman taken from another vehicle directly behind as they approach the bridge at Nijmegen (spelling?) during the war. Then again it might be a motorcycle. Maybe you can make it out better than I. Where did I get the photo? It is one of hundreds contained in a photo album I now possess and all the credit goes to Roy Barger (now deceased) who was a member of the 508th during the war. Bob Hudson Posted February 10, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 10, 2007 There's a Cushman scooter webhttp://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/4474/menu.htm site at http://www.hobbytech.com/ that says this and has a photo of one rigged for Airborne use: Cushman Scooters and the Cushman Husky engine were used at military facilities during WW2. Cushman also made an Airborne version for the military with a channel iron frame that was designed to be dropped by parachute. Craig's List shows one of these for sale in Texas for $8.000: http://london.craigslist.org/clt/261263414.html And here's site with several pics of the military Cushman's: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/4474/menu.htm When I was in 7th grade the neighbors across the street had two Cushman's and I always thought they were cool machines. Kim Interesting picture, but it looks more like a motorcycle, possibly a British one by the looks of it. My Cushman is wartime, 1944 date found in the Netherlands & restored to as is. They were designed to be dropped by parachute but possibly because of they`re weight most of them arrived at the drop zone by glider. I have seen a couple of pictures of them in action in Holland & they were also used on airfields & docksides

APO472 Posted June 21, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 21, 2007 Does anyone know of the going rate for a Cushman airborne scooter and if anyone knows of one for sale? thanks Paul Paul, There was one for sale in Texas about 6 months ago and they were asking something like 5200.00 or so. The only problem with it that I saw was the fact it was painted up with 82nd A/B insignia. Currahee! Jake Powers

WVUM1shooter Posted July 1, 2008 Share #12 Posted July 1, 2008 I know the engine, Briggs and Stratton model A usually goes for around 250 to 400 depending on the kickstart. A lot of these scooters are stripped of their engines by engine collectors. I would be really grateful if i found one with the original engine like yours. 517th Posted July 10, 2008 Author Share #18 Posted July 10, 2008 It is a rough ride on anything other than a tarmac road compared to the British Welbike. The only springing is in the seat......517th
Mr-X Posted July 11, 2008 Share #19 Posted July 11, 2008 Here are two pictures of Cushman scooters Johannes They are great in the field pictures Johannes. I wonder why I didn't see one in Band of Brothers? Maybe the producers thought that they weren't manly enough for rough and tough paratroopers.
