bayonetman Posted June 14, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2016 I recently received an email with a question concerning the markings on the latch plate of a Utica M4 bayonet. Normally these are found either marked with a deep "dimple" at the 6 o'clock position indicating manufacture by Utica, or with the Standard Products intertwined SP logo. This one however is marked UC at the 9 o'clock position which probably indicates Utica Cutlery. The bayonet itself is an apparently unissued early M4 and is typical early Utica production with the narrow spaced 6 square groove grip and a nice clear tang peen. Has anyone else seen a UC marked latch plate? In my OPINION this may be a very early bayonet, possibly even a prototype or one held back as a sample. It is of course also possible that the first batch of the latch plates made by Utica were marked this way, but I don't recall ever seeing one before.
