LWF2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2016 Hi everyone, I came into possession to add to my military collection a nice US Navy Officer Sword but I am not well versed in this item at all and I am hoping one of you might be able to give me some thoughts on it. I tried looking up the makers mark on it to get an idea of it's age but have come up empty. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated! I have attached some photo's

Spathologist Posted June 12, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 12, 2016 Wolf Brown is the maker. Stainless blade, made in Toledo, quality of castings...I'm no expert on naval swords, but I would guess post Vietnam-era.
TheMariner Posted June 12, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 12, 2016 It is a decent sword but most certainly post vietnam and may be even as recent as the 90s. These dont hold much value from being present I'm guessing this one wouldn't sell for more then $50 dollars and possibly even less!
reschenk Posted June 12, 2016 Share #5 Posted June 12, 2016 Hopefully one of the members will recognize this maker's logo, but I cannot place it. I can tell you, however, that from the style and the other markings that your sword is definitely post-1960 and probably considerably later than that. Prior to the '60s the term "stainless steel" did not appear on blades.
Spathologist Posted June 12, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 12, 2016 Hopefully one of the members will recognize this maker's logo. Wolf-Brown. They merged with Vanguard in the mid-80s, and I don't think the brand was used for long after the merger, if at all. So I don't think it's 1990s. 1970s-mid 1980s is my guess, just from the corporate history.
Tim Posted June 13, 2016 Share #7 Posted June 13, 2016 I think it was made by Berhemo, Toledo. There a several US importers/distributors of Spanish swords. Another us sword maker in Toledo is Marto.
Tim Posted June 13, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 13, 2016 Spanish US Navy swords were made in the late nineteenth century. They became more common after 1970 because they are less expensive than the German one.
