hardheaded Posted June 12, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2016 A friend dropped by with some uniforms he picked up today and wanted to see if I'd do some trading. The uniform with this tab is a DSA-100-436, buttons changed to the silver ones. I didn't know what to think about it but I liked the tab. Anyhow I want to add a picture of the tab to the Patch Tab thread started by 36-tex if it's not a Prince fashion piece or something What do you all think about the tab? Thanks! tredhed2 Posted June 12, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 12, 2016 The longer we were on occupation duty, the quality of the quality of became poorer. This one is an example of a later made tab, but am not sure if it really is a purple color or not. If it is indeed purple, it's pretty weird. hardheaded Posted June 12, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted June 12, 2016 I like the quality, it's wool and purple. Maybe I'm weird though. lol
36-tex Posted June 12, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 12, 2016 Interesting to see the "poor" stitching on of the tab compared to the 7th Army.
hardheaded Posted June 12, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted June 12, 2016 Yeah, that's a poor job for sure! I don't know if you can see it in the pics but there's at least one piece of loose green thread on the tab (bottom right). Maybe it was removed once then sewn (LOL) back on. 36-tex Posted June 12, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 12, 2016 If you carefully look at the backside of the tab, is it purple as well?
hardheaded Posted June 12, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted June 12, 2016 From the inside of the sleeve, doesn't look like it was machine sewn on before. If you can go by that. It may look blue near the back but with a flashlight and magnifying glass it looks dark purple.

The Meatcan Posted June 14, 2016 Share #10 Posted June 14, 2016 Interesting. When were these tabs used? I ask as my dad was in Seventh Army in Germany in the early 50s but never had this tab. Terry
vzemke Posted June 15, 2016 Share #11 Posted June 15, 2016 These Germany tabs exist in a wide variety of colors and styles. I believe most were sewn onto "going home" uniforms by GIs when they were leaving Germany. It wouldn't make much sense to show everyone else on your Kaserne that you were serving in Germany ("no s**t, aren't we all?"). However it would make sense to want to show everyone else you crossed paths with on your way back to your moms house in the states that you had been serving along the Iron Curtin. All are unauthorized and most are not for a specific unit. They seem to have been fashionable in the mid to late 1950's, but examples exist for a variety of locations dating back to the immediate post WWII period. 0bx Posted June 15, 2016 Share #14 Posted June 15, 2016 Stationed in Germany 1960-63. These tabs still existed, blue with white trim, but totally unauthorized for wear. More of a souvenir, take home item as mentioned above..
