1972firebird Posted June 9, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2016 This cane up for sale locally. It seems to have many different features like the hand gaurd shape, pommel, and length of blade then a normal au lion trench knife. The seller says its a marine raider knife but i wanted to be sure. If it is good, what would a piece like this be expected to go for? Thank you.
Eric Queen Posted June 9, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2016 Looks to me like a WW1 trench knife. I wasn't aware that this type of knife was associated with the Marine Raiders. Usually (from my understanding) the Stiletto and Bowie (by Collins & Co.) are most associated with them. Let's see what the knife guys say. They will know. Good luck. hink441 Posted June 9, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 9, 2016 I would have to question the handle. In my opinion the handle does not look good. Bigger pics would help. Chris
militariaone Posted June 9, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 9, 2016 Greetings, this posted knife is not anything contemporarily issued to any US personnel. No point in rehashing what is already explained here http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/edged-weapons/us-1918-trench-knife-opinions-please-635123/ There is someone making these for sale out of the UK, and are just fantasy items, worth whatever your willing to pay for some recently made contrivance. doyler Posted June 9, 2016 Share #5 Posted June 9, 2016 Agreed a fantasy piece.seen them with various foriegn bayonet blades.
Allan H. Posted June 9, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 9, 2016 THese really have a "House of Swords" vibe to them. For some reason, I am wanting to say that the scabbard looks Spanish. I SERIOUSLY doubt this was something made for or by a Marine Raider. Allan
doyler Posted June 9, 2016 Share #7 Posted June 9, 2016 I think the item is a swiss bayonet modification. The blae markings added after the other ground off? Hard to see by the photo angle.
thorin6 Posted June 9, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 9, 2016 It's a US marked blade (most likely a M1905) in a foreign scabbard with a reproduction handle. I've seen one of these for sale a couple of months ago and the guy wanted $1100. I passed.
45ACP Posted June 22, 2016 Share #9 Posted June 22, 2016 Sorry Thorin6 the blade is the wrong shape for a M1905, M1 or even a Krag. They all have a fuller down the center of the blade. The U.S. could be fake. It's a US marked blade (most likely a M1905) in a foreign scabbard with a reproduction handle. I've seen one of these for sale a couple of months ago and the guy wanted $1100. thorin6 Posted June 22, 2016 Share #10 Posted June 22, 2016 The extensive sharpening appears to have left just the vestige of a fuller in the center; unless better pictures can be found I would still think it to be a M1905. The one that I saw for $1100 was definitely a M1905.
