Hey Guys...."Newbie" here and just wanted to say Hello......Hans Fischer and I live in Tennessee......Retired Military 27+ years..both Army and Air Force...have been a Military Collector as long as I can remember...hit the big 75 this coming September.....anyway...couple weeks ago....I came across this Knife and Im afraid its starting me off to be a "Knife Collector" now.......it was labeled as a "Kutmaster Fighting Knife"....cut down Garand....got a good deal on it as the auction photo wasn't too clear and the description I think probably scared some folks off as it said..."had a lot of Patina" and to the unknowing ..was probably interpreted as .Rust....got it in and it looks Great...so good Im considering not doing much cleaning on it......anyway...have been surfing the internet for over a week and have never seen another like it......so thinking it must be a "one-off" by a Vet at one time......The Guard is solid and all the locking mechanisms have been removed along with the slot at the back.....a lot of time was put in on it.......let me know your opinions and any suggestions.....your time and Expertise is Greatly Appreciated.........Hans Fischer

I inherited one of these from my grandfather who was in the Navy during WWII. It was in a USN leather sheath. I figured at the time that the knife was used by him during the war but someone told me that these are post war modifications on leftover bayonets that never got made by the end of the war. Can someone confirm this?

kutmaster is a division of Utica Cutlery. after the war they made knifes and called them fighting knifes but they were post war copies of knives Utica produced during the war at least that is what I have read

A lot of M1 bayonets were turned into fighting knives during the war, but the one's marked Kutmaster were post-war alterations of most-likely existing parts. Never been sure if the knives were from complete bayonets or parts bought up at the end of the war.
