Please Help Me ID or find more Info on this Possible Vintage Military Carry or Transfer Ammo Baskets

We got these two vintage basket, the person at the sale told me they are Transfer baskets used by the military they dont look military but though i would double check with the help of you guys.. I would like to know more about these baskets, that maybe military, please help me?

 

What we do know:
*They are made out of Brown Fiber Board with a gray rubber lid trim.
*They each measure about 24.5" long x 14.5" wide and 11" tall
*Both have canvas carry handles and one long strap

* The wooden strips appear to be added

They look to me like the type of baskets that would have been used at CIF to turn in or issue equipment. Could also be old mail handler baskets.
