Was hoping to get help identifying this 7" x 9" Civil War era group of soldiers.. Emblem on officer's cap center looks like "171" followed by infantry bugle. Photographers stamp on back "Markley"... one photographer Markley known in Chicago at the time...

Gracias....

Matthew at just a quick glance, I would say these are not Civil War soldiers but a group that dates from the 1880's. Maybe National Guardsman. I am sure others can be more precise in ID'ing the rifles and the shooting awards and uniforms. A very nice image!

The medal collectors can provide more info, but it looks like some are wearing the Illinois qualification medal. You might want to post a close up of the medals in the medals section. This is a really nice photo!

OK... will do. And that would make sense, as the Markley Brothers were noted in a directory of Chicago photographers.
