CASE M4 with Starburst Pommel

I have had this set for a long time and just started researching the details. From what I have learned from researching this forum and others, the consensus seems to be that CASE M4's did not have the starburst peen. The leather handles have V cut grooves and the scabbard is Vietnam era. All comment much appreciated.

Thanks, Al

That's a composit knife put together from different parts. Case did not use plastic spacers and v grooves,or the starburst peen. It may have been refurbished during or after the war though. I cannot see the blade well but Case usually had a real texture to the blade finish.

Al- Besides the tang being staked, (not starburst), the back-cut of the blade is not a 90* square cut. The one in question has the long run-out back cut, which means the blade was replaced with a more current one, say a late M7 blade. This one is rebuilt! Sorry! SKIP

Thank you jw517 and SKIP. After all of my research, I had a feeling that it might be rebuilt or put together. I compared the blade to an M3 and a M7 and it matched the form of the M7. I have attached a couple more picture that I hope will help any others with M4 questions. Thanks again for the great information and quick replies.

On the subject of what to look for on the blade. Besides the runout, what is the view about the tool marks on the blade? I haven't actively gone after M4's, only have a Utica and a Bren Dan, but I've noticed on M3 knives that the blade finish doesn't show up with the parallel tool marks. Was this true with the M4 bayonets, at least thru the WW2 years as well? Seems like the later manufactured pieces, (i"m including M4's M5/M5A1, M6, M7's), sometimes have them and others don't.

Holy Mackerel! Here's another one with a starburst peen. No plastic spacers, but wrong blade. 401126055638
