scotty1418 Posted May 21, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 21, 2016 Hello, Just one of many I'm going through. Anything about this that would seem impossible or unreasonable?
TheMariner Posted May 21, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 21, 2016 I am may be wrong but the second medal bar on the top row looks like a navy reserve ribbon which would not make sense on a AAF uniform!

TheMariner Posted May 21, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 21, 2016 You are right i thought the ends were yellow for some reason, sorry about that! With it being the Legion all medals are possible to have been awarded to an AAF Vet.
Allan H. Posted May 21, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 21, 2016 The ribbons are not WWII vintage. If I were going to guess, I would bet that the uniform was worn by a reenactor to hanger dances/ USO type events. It is NOT realistic that one guy would have earned all of those medals in WWII. Allan H. Posted May 21, 2016 Share #7 Posted May 21, 2016 Scotty, It is one of those things that once you have handled a ton of ribbons and have messed with enough original WWII uniforms that you come to expect to see certain things. It is difficult to go into great detail, but the ribbons on the jacket look like they were recently manufactured and are on brass sliders. The ribbon bars themselves will also have a tell-tale look to them that is not the same as the WWII vintage bars. Now let's look at what the ribbons suggest. Your hero has obviously been highly and frequently decorated with a number of high awards. I think you would be very hard pressed to find a single AAF soldier who received all of the medals represented here. Soldiers medals are rather scarcely awarded as are awards of the Legion of Merit. The Silver Star is also rarely seen in aviation groups. Bronze Stars were not awarded for aerial flight and in most cases, were awarded to ground officers and crew chiefs at the end of the war as a "thanks for your help" award since they weren't out earning Air Medals and DFC's. Usually, a senior officer would get a LOM and a junior officer or NCO would get a Bronze Star. Rarely did you see both given. My two cents, Allan
CNY Militaria Posted May 21, 2016 Share #8 Posted May 21, 2016 I agree with Allan. My first thoughts when seeing the ribbon set were the same as reflected above. Justin
