Early M.I.T. R.O.T.C. Collar Insignia?

Estate sale find today in a jewelry box with other Massachusetts related items. A quick check of history at MIT showed that ROTC as so named has been there since about 1917 and was preceded by earlier military cadet training under another name or names. This collar brass looks to be of the type and size worn on Army uniforms while the high collars were the norm. But I have not been able to find any pictures of MIT ROTC uniforms or insignia from the high collar period. Am I on the right track or is the insignia for something else? All comments welcome and much appreciated.

Thanks, Al
