anton67 Posted May 18, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 18, 2016 Hi, I have the opportunity to purchase this visor but I am not sure whether it is USN or Merchant Marine? Also what era is it from? Thanks in advance for your help
MasonK Posted May 18, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 18, 2016 Mark, I'm thinking this is a Petty Officer Line visor for US Army Transportation Services. Couple examples below: http://www.jessensrelics.com/USHG/USHG-055.html http://379814273472299153.weebly.com/visor-caps--over-seas-caps-of-the-sea-services.html
anton67 Posted May 18, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted May 18, 2016 Thanks Eric. Possibly WWII?
MasonK Posted May 18, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 18, 2016 I honestly don't know considering I've never seen that cap device before. Cap looks like a standard USN Khaki visor, so I would likely date it based off of that. Once you get it, would need to see the interior, makers tag, etc... anton67 Posted May 18, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted May 18, 2016 OK, will do. Mark
aef1917 Posted May 18, 2016 Share #6 Posted May 18, 2016 The cap itself looks identical to my dad's MSTS cap, except his has the quill and key for a Yeoman Storekeeper rather than a fouled anchor.
sigsaye Posted May 18, 2016 Share #7 Posted May 18, 2016 Sorry for taking so long to get back, just got service. Definately not USN. Not sure what it is, but not USN
MattS Posted May 19, 2016 Share #8 Posted May 19, 2016 It's a USATS Petty Officer Line visor. Joseph Tonelli's book shows 3 examples on pages 153-155 in blue, khaki, and gray.
anton67 Posted May 19, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted May 19, 2016 Thank you all for chiming in. Anyone know what era? Looks like WWII maybe to me.
MattS Posted May 19, 2016 Share #10 Posted May 19, 2016 Probably WW2. Ideally, if it was named you could track down the original owner's service and know for sure.
