max0073 Posted May 18, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 18, 2016 Dear fellow collectors, please share your thoughts on this jacket. It does not come from a collector but from a vintage store. Thanks Max

Jumpin Jack Posted May 18, 2016 Share #14 Posted May 18, 2016 I think you found yourself a winner. There are some very positive points well in its favor--the tag inside the pocket even if its washed out; the effort to eliminate the name (which might allow you to do some research); armpit vents; Rigger reinforcements. Your source is also a plus. Congratulations. Jack
63 RECON Posted May 18, 2016 Share #15 Posted May 18, 2016 I am by no means an expert but it looks like a real jump coat, as for the reinforcements its hard to tell Strange where the name is written, Can you make out the writing on the hem? Can you go back to the store and ask where this came from? Here is a good page on reinforced jump coats. http://triggertimeforum.yuku.com/topic/10075/re-The-Myth-of-reinforced-M42-jump-suits?page=1#.VzxzmiuUfuM good thread as well http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/241156-reinforced-82nd-ab-m42-jacket/
Der Finn Posted May 18, 2016 Share #16 Posted May 18, 2016 I agree with the above comments as to the jacket being authentic; however I think the name "Maldonado" is a fairly recent addition
63 RECON Posted May 18, 2016 Share #17 Posted May 18, 2016 Its along shot but there is a Trino F Maldonado listed in the 508th rosters for Normandy and Holland. If you look at the trigger time forum this has the hall marks of possibly being an 82nd modified suit. http://www.wwiiadt.org/shenkle.htm http://marketgarden1944-2014.pre-jump.nl/82-airborne-men.html http://508pir.org/obits/obit_text/m/maldonado_tf.htm
max0073 Posted May 18, 2016 Author Share #18 Posted May 18, 2016 Dear all, many thanks for your comment. I have read the pages on the reinforcements and was positive but wanted to have more thoughts anyway as I am far from being specialist of these items. The name is for sure Maldonado. There is another faded inscription that could be either Brian C or Btn v C. However, I've read that Pvt. Maldonado was in Btn 2E.. Best, Max
