Possible ADC piece?

Been a little quiet lately, so I thought I’d post this.

Generally I don’t actively go after “Theater” pieces. Without strong provenance along with it they usually don’t amount to anything more than curiosities.

The other thing is knives without their sheaths. Sheaths by themselves are usually more of a snipe hunt than it’s worth for me, IMHO.

Recently I ran across this and found I liked it in spite of any lack of documentation. I guess it’s the artwork and expression that draws me to it, and the fact that the knife I’ve matched it to had a sheath that was starting to disintegrate.

It least it does a nice job of representing the time and place of the Aleutian Campaign.

Anyone have idea’s on what “J:8444” might be? I’ve got one idea, but for now I’ll keep it to myself, to see what others might come up with.

Initial of last name plus last 4 of his serial number?

That is super cool...I would have been all over it.

Great looking sheath! I agree with Robert about it being a laundry number. There is a Peter Jozwiak, 36228444, originally from Wisconsin, but who enlisted at Fort Sheridan, IL. Sheridan is not far from Chicago.

Thanks Beast! Guess I'll have to try and do some detective work.

And I was wondering if Pete was just what he named his knife. :)

That is an amazing piece. I love the artwork. It is cool to see both the early seal insignia, and the post March 1943 polar bear insignia on the same piece.

Still looking to see if I can come up with anything to tie Peter Joswiak to stationing in Alaska and when. Slow going so far. Looks to me now that he may have been native to Illinois, and that Portage WI may have been his last address before enlistment Not sure as what I've got so far is pretty lean.
