USAF29thINFvet Posted May 12, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2016 Hi all, I have a question concerning Co. F 51st Infantry. I have seen them listed as being part or attached to the 199th LIB as well as the IIFFV. Is either correct? If you were to pair it up with a SSI, which would it be, 199th or IIFFV? Thanks
439th Signal Battalion Posted May 12, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 12, 2016 The correct insignia would be II FFV, with either this scroll or an Airborne tab. Company F, 51st Infantry was under the operational control of the 199th for much of 1967 and 1968 but they were never officially a part of the Brigade. However, a few personnel from F/51st Infantry did transfer in to the 199th's, 71st Infantry (LRRP) detachment when it was created for the 199th. This same practice applied to many of the 199th's infantry battalions when they were under the operational control of the 9th Infantry, 25th Infantry, and 1st Cavalry Divisions at various times and places. 468abnarm Posted May 12, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 12, 2016 Just an FYI, F / 51 is now a LRS unit of the XVIII Abn Corps. Immediate parent unit being the 525th BfSB.
