Seldom seen K.G Luke EGA

Hello Gents,

I posted pictures of the EGA in another area but thought they were more appropriate within the EGA discussion area.

As you can see it's a seldom seen officers EGA collar made by K.G. Luke.

I hope you like the pictures.

Paul

Nice emblem, finish polished off the continents.

I wouldn't say seldom seen. These are not nearly as rare as the market suggests. They sell for good money, true, but aren't particularly hard to find. The enlisted versions with etched continents right into the globe are much more uncommon

Thanks for your reply 'Brig'.

I wrote seldom seen because I searched the forum and couldn't find another example, but if you could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

I'm also looking for a picture of a K.G. Luke manufactured officers dress hat badge for reference.

I would love to see a photo of the EGA with etched continents as sounds like a very nice EGA.

I have attached a couple of photos of a K.G. Luke OR's collar I picked up recently.

Thanks

Paul

All current evidence indicates that KG Luke did not make any cover emblems, nor dress emblems. Just service collars

Here are a few topics from our EGA reference section...

Thanks for the links Brig and I can see by the comments why that 'etched' EGA is so uncommon.

I should know better after spending two years on an exchange postings at MARFORPAC but what are 'dress emblems'?

Got it Brig, like what would be worn on the Dress Blues uniform.

I note you mentioned that current evidence indicates that K.G. Luke didn't make dress emblems, but the first collar I listed would fall into this category or am I missing something?

Thanks

Paul

The one you posted is a service uniform emblem, for the green blouse. They were finished in brown/black, made of bronze. I'm assuming the flash washed it out a bit. It appears the finish on the continents has been rubbed off on yours...I'm guessing intentionally due to its uniform removal. Common practice, I've seen it often, but not sure the purpose behind it. Definitely against regulations

Or is it silver? I have encountered a couple that have been painted silver, perhaps to be used as a dress emblem, but more likely for sweethearts. I own a silver one that was was part of a converted piece to an Aussie girlfriend

Thanks for your reply Brig.

Just so I'm clear the bronze badge was worn on the green uniform and the silver and gold badge, shown below, might be a 'sweethearts' badge as current evidence suggest K.G. Luke didn't make dress badges?

Correct. Sweetheart or self-done conversion. The silver on yours appears to be painted. Clearer photos in natural light without a flash would allow us to see the details better

OK Brig and Gents,

Attached are some photos of the EGA taken in natural sun light and haven't been altered in any way. I note the photos are a little darker once I loaded them on the forum.

As you can see badge is silver with gold highlights on the continents, base and inner anchor tips, eagles feet and back of globe on reverse.

I don't know if it's the silver colour or not but the detail on this badge compared to other Luke made EGA's is much sharper.

Keen to hear what your thoughts are on this EGA?

Paul

The anchor is not entirely gold? The silver appears to be painted on? Interesting piece, looks much clearer now.
