And the one casing you show the bottom of, hard to read as its not clear, but it appears the primer has been struck so it's a fired round, and I think maybe a 1969 date?

MWalsh is right, the one casing appears to be fired. However, don't assume that since one has been fired that they all have. I would check that all rounds have a dimple in the primer.

I agree that it is a belt of 7.62 M60 machine gun blanks. They all look fired from what I can see. Live rounds will have a red seal at the projectile end that holds the powder in and the bottom primer will not have the indention as shown in your picture.

thanks! the top off each is a hole and there is the indentation on each of the bottoms. Thanks for the quick help! It looks very cool in a display.

Looks to be Lake City 1969 marked. I have a bunch of linked ammo very similar to this.

Thanks! Can anyone tell me what the main target of the m60 was? ant tank, one man gunner? mounted? I would love to learn more about this.

As others have said, these are common M82 blanks, linked with the M13 links for the M60 machine gun. The blanks appear to be spent...the primers are dimpled and the red wax plugs are missing. FWIW, the links are on backwards, too - the tab should be locked into the rim of case, not aligned with the shoulder.

  • 2 years later...

Good catch on the links being backwards (upside down). Or are the cartidge cases upside down? Hmmmmmmmmmm......
