dskjl Posted March 21, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted March 21, 2016 Very nice.Just think what you will find when all the ice and snow melts Too funny, but isn't it missing the tension arms and the ear piece looks odd as well. or maybe it's just the cold effecting my vision. M24 Chaffee Posted March 21, 2016 Share #18 Posted March 21, 2016 Nice tanker grouping. Cool find. The helmet is interesting. It's missing a few things and has some unusual features like the snaps on top of the helmet near the air vents. Maybe post pics in the helmet forum? Someone there may have some thoughts and not notice the photos on this thread. Frank
AustinO Posted March 21, 2016 Share #19 Posted March 21, 2016 Most likely Charles W Atkins, 20822874 enlisted 1940 into the Cav from Texas. Nice grouping.
dskjl Posted March 22, 2016 Author Share #20 Posted March 22, 2016 Most likely Charles W Atkins, 20822874 enlisted 1940 into the Cav from Texas. Nice grouping. Thanks it's an odd one for sure, I think it's a foreign made helmet that was adopted by this particular soldier. The mix match snaps United Carr really has me thinking. Thanks again. dskjl Posted March 22, 2016 Author Share #21 Posted March 22, 2016 :(So looking at the uniform it looks like the helmet and uniform do not go together. The markings in the uniform are H-5955, oh well the uniform is still cool even if the helmet doesn't go with it.
Jeeper704 Posted March 22, 2016 Share #22 Posted March 22, 2016 This helmet looks like a post-1945 type. The earpiece reminds me of the Belgian/Dutch type. No remnants of a black ink stamp on the inside of the rear part? The extra press button might have been for the boom microphone? Bundeswehr? 1960s type helmet? Check this; http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/130194-tanker-helmet-1961/ And this; http://www.ima-usa.com/u-s-wwii-style-tanker-helmet.html Erwin

dskjl Posted March 25, 2016 Author Share #25 Posted March 25, 2016 Well I think it's been decided the helmet is post war occupation period and foreign. The snaps have me thinking it was used by a US soldier but the stamp just doesn't make sense to me. Thank to everybody for you comments. The uniform is my next investigation I have not taken of the hanger yet but will tonight and look name number etc... More to follow.
