agate hunter Posted March 8, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 8, 2016 Hi everyone. I was wondering what the best method would be to remove the verdigris from the brass sword hanger and leather around it on this army dress blues belt I picked up. I don't want to damage the leather. The sword hanger cannot be removed either, the leather tab securing it is sewed on on both sides. Thanks.

Ben@HI Posted March 8, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 8, 2016 I have had pretty good luck with a soft tooth brush and a damp cloth.
Nic Posted March 8, 2016 Share #4 Posted March 8, 2016 Q-tips and wooden toothpicks have served me well.
mvmhm Posted March 8, 2016 Share #5 Posted March 8, 2016 I just use the tooth pick option...slow going though... Mark sends
Brig Posted March 12, 2016 Share #6 Posted March 12, 2016 I've used toothpicks, Q-tips, and tooth brushes...and toothpaste on brass and bronze with decent results. Slow going, hard scrubbing, though
Old Marine Posted March 12, 2016 Share #7 Posted March 12, 2016 I have used a tiny bit of Renaissance Wax with a cotton swab, and it has worked well with no long term ill effects.
pathfinder505 Posted March 12, 2016 Share #8 Posted March 12, 2016 What is the best way to keep it from returning?
Old Marine Posted March 12, 2016 Share #9 Posted March 12, 2016 The items I have cleaned and treated with the Renaissance Wax have not had the Verdigris return. You only need to use a tiny bit of the wax, it seems to melt away the verdgris. Once it's clean, wipe it with a clean piece of cotton t shirt material and then just a very light coat seems to work fine.
