Another superb beret posted.

These berets are a treat to see.

Interesting to see another variant to this tailors label. I wonder how many they used during the period?

Thanks for all the posts Gents.
Patrick.

Hi Patrick,
Luong-Tan used 4 variation labels for berets during the war. They are all pictured in my new book. Andrei, again superb items from your collection. Jeff

Beret of RADM Henry Suerstedt, Deputy COMNAVFORV - 1st SEALORD

This beret is a part of a much larger grouping from the estate of RADM Suerstedt.

Andrei, very nice and rare collection of berets. I know they are hard to find. Be sure to check out my new book Jaunty Tilt, a presentation of Vietnam worn berets. They will be available as soon as the copyright certificate is issued. Jeff

Hi Jeff,
When will book be out and available to purchase
Thanks,
Jerry

Hi Andrei,
I have added these to my navy collection they are my first I was inspired by your collection. I have a question concerning the patch being on the left or right side. I see from your post they are on both sides, was there any set rule for this?
Thanks Dan

Hi Dan,

usually TF-116 black berets have the badge over right eye, French style. MatterHorn shows a left eye badged black beret which is no doubt legit.
For camo berets and NAG berets, it seems there is no rule. So are the Junk Force berets, some drop right and some drop left.
Your berets look questionable to me... both patches look like the repro currently made in Vietnam. Did you get them on eBay ?

This was owned by the Commanding Officer of the carrier Oriskany in 66-67. There were two these at the sale at his home, plus a camo bush hat with the SOUTH VIETNAM rocker on the side. I picked up this one beret and the bush hat.

I also got a TONKIN GULF YACHT club patch which would have looked great on the beret, but he didn't put anything on the berets and in fact they appear to never have been worn, so this is pretty much mint and 40+ years old.

Hi, Andrei.

Thanks for posting these pics. COMNAVFORV was my old command in Vietnam. I spent 10 months with COMNAVFORV before being transferred to NAG for 6 months as an instructor in the boat school in Saigon. I trained both VNN enlisted and midshipmen.

I had a similar beret, but the flash was made of metal. Lost it years ago to the kids!
