Can anyone identify this Navy Badge? Is it for hat or sleeve or what? What period? Thanks in advance. Pony.

IIRC,that design dates from the mid 1800's

See if you can find a copy on line of the USN 1852 Uniform regulations. It looks like a part of a USMC cap badge for a tall front service cap. I think the USN Historian site has those regs. on line..

It is a Early Marine Shako Badge, i knew what it was from the time it was posted but didn't want the info released if it was original. I think i and other deemed it to be a repro but it would have been worth a very hefty sum if original!
