I enjoy actually thinking I have them all. it gives me some satisfaction knowing it is possible to collect a whole "set". this is the case with the DEG's, there were only 6 in this class of ship they later became FFG's but for know I have the whole "set" enjoy.

I remember the first 3 were out of San Diego and Pearl. I went aboard USS Bradley (FF-1041)a month after the "Name Change" from DE yo FF. The "Brooke" class was exactly the same shop with the exception that the DEG had the aft 5 in, 38 cal replaced with a missile launcher. I remember steaming with Schofield often, but Brooke always seemed to be broke down. We called her the USS "Broke".

Aloha Bearmon,

Thanks for posting the Brooke class guided missile escorts, they were on my 'i'll get around to it' list. Here are the other ones you need for the set. If anyone has others for these six ships, please post them for us.

USS BROOKE DEG/FFG-1

DEG 1 FFG 1 USS BROOKE 001.jpg

Completely different shape on the FFG-1 patch

DEG 1 FFG 1 USS BROOKE 002.jpg

USS RAMSEY DEG/FFG-2 - the FFG patch is a Swiss-Tex circa 1975.

They were ordered cellophane wrapped in a carton without the Swiss-Tex printing on the cards (same size card and package as the printed products)

DEG 2 FFG 2 USS RAMSEY 001.jpg

USS SCHOFIELD DEG/FFG-3

DEG 3 FFG 3 USS SCHOFIELD 001.jpg

DEG 3 FFG 3 USS SCHOFIELD 002.jpg

USS TALBOT DEG/FFG-4 - The cellophane wrapped FFG-4 is also a 1975 Swiss-Tex sold by the ships' store

DEG 4 FFG 4 USS TALBOT 001.jpg

The best of the best Atlantic Fleet patch is harder to find

DEG 4 FFG 4 USS TALBOT 002.jpg

USS RICHARD L. PAGE DEG/FFG-5

DEG 5 FFG 5 USS RICHARD L PAGE 001.jpg

The fit to fight patch is also harder to find

DEG 5 FFG 5 USS RICHARD L PAGE 002.jpg

and lastly USS JULIUS A. FURER DEG/FFG-6

There are many knock offs of the "FFG-6" patch but the original 1975 ships' patch was "FF-6" with no "G"

. Sometimes, patches just "Changr". When I was on USS Henry B. Wildon, DDG-7, the background of the ships patch just CHANGED. No reason, the manufacturer just made a change. What was really interesting was that at the same time, we got a shipment of "Zippo" ships belt buckles at about the same time. They were muss stamped to read USS Henry B. Wilson DOG-7! They flew off the shelves!

The FFG-7 Oliver Hazard Perry class of Gas Turbine Guided Missile Frigates were the next step in the evolution of the USN during the 1970's Cold War era. They came online intended to be a class of lighter and less expensive escort ships to complement the other new class being commissioned, the Spruance class destroyers. There were 51 Perry frigates commissioned between 1977 and 1989, the last going out of service in 2015.

Commissioning set from Perry class USS WADSWORTH (FFG-9) In service 1978 to 2002

This is the late 1970's to 80's cap patch and Swiss-Tex patch from the ships's store. They came on cellophane wrapped unmarked cards identical to the Swiss-Tex marked cards. The ships could buy them by the box on the plain card at a lesser price

The introduction of the Perry and Spruance classes also created the Gas Turbine Technician Rate. This is a Gas Turbine Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) patch that could be worn on the coveralls of a senior enlisted or commissioned EOOW, note both the gold and silver SWAS emblems and GT emblem.
