Short Griswold Bag

I am familiar with the Griswold "Padded Jump Cases" used in WW2 for paratroopers and later, the M14s, but, was there any such padded bag/case made that was like those but in OD Green, like the Nam era ones? Ive seen full length in OD but never short like the WW2 ones.

I'd like to find one that's around 24"-30" long, zippered, O.D., for a shorty AR15 I have. Were they ever made for something like the Thompson SMGs?

Does anyone make repros of these bags in OD w/ zippers? Perhaps I could see if theyd make me a shorter version.

Thanks guys

The M1950 weapons cases used with M1s, M14s, and M16s. Have an adjustment strap that will shorten the length of the container. I know guys who used to break their M16s down into two pieces to shorten the length when they jumped. That should fit the bill for a "shorty" AR-15. SKIP

Customizing an M1950 might be more work than you first suspect. Besides the material being heavy and hard to work with the zipper is another consideration. Part of the beauty of being able to fold them to length.

The rubberized spare barrel bag for the M60 machine gun may prove to be more adaptable for your purpose it's about 31 inches long.

I can only say that an AR-180 with the stock folded would fit the M-60 spare barrel bag. I did a quick search and they are out there, but they are also starting to show their age. Another possible choice is the M249 spare barrel bag. they are newer and the prices look to be better at this point. Happy hunting.

I recall the part number on these 2nd pattern being 43G23402 and Army Air Corps specific. This was an earlier number. They were called

Holster, Assembly, Parachutist’s Rifle.

The 84xx series part number/stock was a second patern of the second model

Actually that document for the tripod brought up in a search for the number does confirm the part number. From the actual document: [Ÿ Modified 1950 jump bag (NSN 8465‑00‑261‑4995).].

It does appear from other documents in the same search that the NSN number has been cancelled for sometime now.

Im guessing by the wording(RIFLE CARBINE SUBMACHINEGUN) you could also carry the M1a1 folding stock carbine in this as well and intended for a all purpose carring case.
