Wolfhound Posted February 13, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2016 Not exactly sure what these are. The octagon one looks like a Type I gilt, but the pebbling is not very precise. Infantry insignia with I6 or 16 above. Screwback. The second is a bronze disc with three sharp prongs on the rear. One prong has broken off. It is stamped "7 HQ 14" or "7 HO. 14"with U.S. and crossed riffles embossed and a horizontal area where the stamping occurred, as if it were made to be stamped. Neither really fits the standard US Army collar disc styles that I have seen, however, the bronze tag seems to be army related. The octagon one, no idea. Any help greatly appreciated! I'd add a shot of reverse, but limited in what I can upload as newbie.
RustyCanteen Posted February 13, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 13, 2016 Hi, I don't know about the octagonal collar disc, but the stamped one on the left is an equipment marking disk dating to the 1920s. It was used to allow a soldier to mark his equipment with his unit identification and roster number/serial number to keep track of it. Wolfhound Posted February 13, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted February 13, 2016 Thank you very much for your help! When I click on that link, I get a permission error. Is that because of my new account status? Hi, I don't know about the octagonal collar disc, but the stamped one on the left is an equipment marking disk dating to the 1920s. MBS Posted February 13, 2016 Share #4 Posted February 13, 2016 In my opinion I believe the octagon collar disks are rather hard to find. I have not seen one on a uniform or even a photograph of one being worn. They may have been localized to a certain region for wear. With that being said the only other one that I am familiar with appears in the book "The Collar Disk Story (1907-1999) by L. Albert Scipio II." It appears on page 103. That particular one has the unit number 112 above the rifles. Brent

atb Posted February 13, 2016 Share #6 Posted February 13, 2016 I think the gold-colored one is a state guard (not National Guard) or militia item, maybe California.
Wolfhound Posted February 14, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted February 14, 2016 Hi, Try the link now. RC Thank you! Sorry, wanted to respond earlier, but past my post limit. As far as the subsequent remark that this could be CA State Guard, that could fit, this was in a container with a CA Adalente DUI.
