popcorn Posted February 7, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2016 Hi. Was doing a little internet cursing and stumbled on info that the Ontario RAT-7 has a national stock number 1095-01-523-1972. Does that mean they are recognized/available through the military supply chain? Thanks for any info.

SKIPH Posted February 7, 2016 Share #5 Posted February 7, 2016 I found it on internet. It looks like a decent, practical knife. Have seen troops carrying these, suspect they are PX purchases. SKIP. I also was trying to edit my previous post, and it said I could not do that. What's going on, it was my post! SKIP
popcorn Posted February 7, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted February 7, 2016 Thank you. From what I found on the Ontario RAT series, only the RAT-7 and a folder have National Stock Numbers although there could be others I don't know about.

I got this one at a pawn shop. It is a good knife. I chopped and batonned through some frozen tree limbs and it barely marked the coating. My main question is if the assigned NSN number has any military significance. I thought these were solely commercial knives.

I thought these were solely commercial knives. Various manufacturer's products (COTS) are given NSN's which simply means they can be purchased through normal supply channels. Not very exciting.
