Trying to ID These Civil War Era Scovill Mf'g Co Marks

button is Navy, 6/8" dia

 

marks are dm, button has no rings

 

SCOVILL MF'G. CO. (star) WATERBURY (star)

 

tried several sources & have several marks close but none match

 

any help will be greatly appreciated

At that size, may not find an exact match. At smaller vest sizes (about 17-19mm, at 3/4" that is 19mm) or cuff (14-16mm), sometimes hard to find exact matches. Backmarks of smaller buttons are sometimes abbreviated and markings such as lines around the backmarks are often different. The common reference books on backmarks are based on the larger coat size buttons.

 

With that said this appears to be typical of 1860's to 1870's. Therefore could be Civil War era or slightly after.

As a followup, after sleeping on it, I am leaning towards Civil War era on this one, of course based only on the back, without seeing the front as well hard to make that call. This is very similar, with the rounded stars, like many other Scovill Civil War era navy buttons - have one in my collection, only larger - therefore the die is slightly different.
