dag Posted February 1, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 1, 2016 At that size, may not find an exact match. At smaller vest sizes (about 17-19mm, at 3/4" that is 19mm) or cuff (14-16mm), sometimes hard to find exact matches. Backmarks of smaller buttons are sometimes abbreviated and markings such as lines around the backmarks are often different. The common reference books on backmarks are based on the larger coat size buttons. With that said this appears to be typical of 1860's to 1870's. Therefore could be Civil War era or slightly after. dag Posted February 2, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 2, 2016 As a followup, after sleeping on it, I am leaning towards Civil War era on this one, of course based only on the back, without seeing the front as well hard to make that call. This is very similar, with the rounded stars, like many other Scovill Civil War era navy buttons - have one in my collection, only larger - therefore the die is slightly different.
