Nice patches! My favorite is # 4,it does look to be P.I made IMO.

Many of the folks working in the embroidery shops are Filipino. With that said many of the patches coming form Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait Qatar, and possibly Afghanistan will have a P.I. made look to them. I have seen Filipinos working in these shops since Desert Shield/Storm. They only location I am not 100% sure of is Afghanistan been there a few times just have not seen Filipinos working there.

Good point.Sometimes it's easy to get caught up with where a patch is made when perhaps the more important question is who made it.

I recall an interesting discussion some time back here on the Forum about some Vietnam War era theatre made patches.

Everyone was adding their opinions as to where the patches were made when a fellow member, itshistory IIRC,put forth the info he had about Foreigners setting up shops in theatre which accounted for some variations in workmanship style. It was something I had never considered and made a lot of sense.

I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2012-2013, the operators of the sew shop on FOB Salerno and at Bagram were from Kyrgyzstan. They had computer operated embroidery equipment. I think I posted some of the insignia made there, but can't find the post at the moment. My avatar is of me and two of my linguists at FOB Salerno.

I think these are the best ones of the topic. This type of construction is rarely seen as only early OEF patches were made this way or patches for units stationed at distant outposts. I love them!

Here's a South Park patch that I purchased years ago but somehow misplaced it. Was moving a book shelf in my house and while I was taking some books out this fell on to the ground. Thought it was lost forever so I'm pretty happy to have found it! This is the earliest version of the "busting my a**" patch I've ever seen.

The Diablo Det Rawah patch is a Naval Special Warfare patch that was made for SEALs and their coalition counterparts back in 2004. I have a period picture of this patch being worn, if interested.

Here's another Saudi made "Busting..." patch from the 55th Fighter Sq. in 1998. Got it in early 99 during tour number 4...

Thanks for the information! Had no idea this was NSW related. I’d be very interested in seeing your picture of it being worn

Two patches I picked up while stuck in Saudi.
The Southpark and the 3rd Army/ARCENT as I was under them for force protection and we were allowed to wear that patch as a SSI-FWTS, before the Army said you can only wear your own unit's patch. There was as small shop on base that sold patches and the like.

Haven’t picked up too much in the last couple of years, but here’s a cool recent find. Desert Storm era Saudi made 196th LIB and 77th Sustainment Brigade patches. Apparently the vet was a tunnel during VN. Makes sense considering how small the uniform is! Almost child size

It's probably just the less refined construction of the hand-guided, machine-sewn patch but it looks like the Statue of Liberty ditched her torch and instead has her center finger up (the autocorrect won't let me write middle). That's a great chocolate chip shirt with fantastic patches.
