ViewfinderGyrene Posted January 28, 2016 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2016 Those that I have seen have always had the officer's name, but I'm certainly not the most learned on here lol...
Brig Posted January 29, 2016 Share #5 Posted January 29, 2016 As the years went by, naming became much less commonplace. I'm not sure they even engrave them at all anymore

Tim Posted January 29, 2016 Share #8 Posted January 29, 2016 This appears to be a modern USMC officers sword made in Germany, the "serial" number maybe a lot number, but is otherwise meaningless. I do not see enough to determine the actual German manufacturer. What is the information on the blade by the hilt?
reschenk Posted January 29, 2016 Share #9 Posted January 29, 2016 The "232" is not a serial number but an Acceptance Number. It indicates the manufacturer's swords have been inspected by the Marine Corps Systems Command and certified to meet USMC specs. After the manufacturers product is inspected, they are issued an acceptance certificate which allows them to sell their swords to service members. These swords are etched on the spine of the blade near the hilt with the acceptance certification number. Marlow white has an explanation of the process on their site at http://www.marlowwhite.com/military-sword-information/m-faq-certified-marine-swords.html.
