Championhilz Posted August 24, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2008 Here's my latest WW I portrait, a nice image of Yeoman Edward F. Golladay. The inscription with the photo reads, "Edward F. Golladay, taken just before leaving for France." I don't know that much about Naval insignia, but it appears that Golladay is also has an expert marksmens badge on his sleeve. This image cost me all of $5 - That's one of the reasons I like collecting WW I images, they are still very affordable. I have started doing some research on Golladay, but have not found anything on him yet. Hopefully I will turn up something interesting about his service during WW I. Wailuna Posted August 24, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2008 You probably want a Navy expert to confirm this, but the the rating badge on the upper right sleeve looks like Gunner's Mate 2nd class (if there are two chevrons) and the distinguishing mark for expert rifleman on the lower right sleeve. Championhilz Posted August 24, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted August 24, 2008 After looking at the image more closely with a magnifying glass, you are correct - there are two chevrons, and he must be a gunner's mate, not a yeoman. Thanks for the help!
