bellasilva Posted December 20, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2015 I am taking the time to remember and honor Captain William S. McCauley, Captain of Troop C of the 4th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, who was killed by German small-arms fire 71 years ago today on December 20th, 1944. Dismounted, the 4th was charging across 200 yards of open ground in an attempt to take the high ground overlooking Bogheim, Germany, just days after the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge. If memory serves me, this was actually part of the Hurtgen Forest battle. To a young life lost, and by all accounts an excellent and capable leader who landed on Utah Beach on June 9th of that year, fighting alongside the 101st Airborne Division. You are not, and will never be, forgotten. Rest in peace, Captain.
