Robswashashore Posted December 13, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 13, 2015 Recently a young man enlists in the Army, graduates as a Specialist from Infantry School and serves in the 82nd Airborne in Afghanistan. Upon returning he is accepted into EOD school and graduates, and then assigned to the 22nd Chemical BTN (Technical Escort). On his ASU, would he now wear Infantry or Chemical Corps brass? Oh, and what exactly is a Technical Escort Battalion?
scottiques Posted December 13, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 13, 2015 If he is now EOD, I would think he would wear Ordnance Branch insignia. I am not familiar with the Technical Escort Bn. Scott
vzemke Posted December 13, 2015 Share #3 Posted December 13, 2015 Completion of EOD school would be considered a MOS reclassification, giving the graduate the MOS of 89D (EOD Specialist). This is part of the Ordnance Corps. Even though EOD often work closely with Chemical Corps, and many of the higher HQs for EOD units are designated as Chemical units, EOD is still an Ordnance function. So to answer your question, this person would wear Ordnance collar brass. Tech escort is defined as: technical escort An individual technically qualified and properly equipped to accompany designated material requiring a high degree of safety or security during shipment. QED4 Posted December 20, 2015 Share #5 Posted December 20, 2015 Unless things have changed since I was in the Army (and if it has someone please let me know) you wear the brass of the company you are assigned to no matter what your MOS or job, everyone wears the same to be uniform. Every company is made up of personnel with many MOSs, cooks, drivers, clerks, etc. but you won't see a hodgepodge of all different brass. The one exception is medics who are usually assigned to a medical unit and attached to line companies. So in this case if he is in a chemical company he wears chemical brass. No, that is no longer correct. Not to make you feel old, but things have changed.
QED4 Posted December 22, 2015 Share #7 Posted December 22, 2015 Not to worry it is being old that makes me feel old. You mean that no one in a HQ Platoon, Company, and on up the line in an Infantry unit would wear Infantry brass it would be Quartermaster, Transportation, and so on? What about OJT? I remember my first assignment I showed up at an Engineer unit with a supply MOS and they said "Gee, we really don't need any one in Supply but we need people in the line platoons" so guess what I became. I didn't have an Engineer MOS for several months until they sent me to demolition school and picked up a 12B30 (if I remember right) MOS. So what happens when you fill a slot for one job with another MOS?

Maybe a unit specific thing that you encountered? In all the units that I served in, soldiers wore their MOS branch brass. I was in from 1984- 2009 (and a lot of things I see with the Army makes me feel old). Scott

Feel free to feel old like me. It changed around 1976-77. I had been changing my BOS disk to match the unit up until then- Engineers to Air Defense Artillery to Engineers again to Military Police to Signal Corps to Unassigned to Branch and finally to my career field BOS for good, Signal Corps.
