Bearmon Posted December 3, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 3, 2015 This was being sold by a dealer who also had US Army patches which were SEA made. I cannot find anything on it, there is a quote that was on the paper it was mounted too "We won the battle but lost the war" translation: "We stomped bunches of ants, but got eaten by Alligators!" any help with ID as always is appreciated
vintageproductions Posted December 3, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 3, 2015 Doesn't look Vietnamese made. Looks like standard US type embroidery.
Bearmon Posted December 3, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted December 3, 2015 The white outline V is all chain stitched, the backing is just like 100's of other VN made patches I have, not US made in my opinion, but I am still looking for a possible ID, thanks for the input. River Patrol Posted December 3, 2015 Share #4 Posted December 3, 2015 I can't think of one patch where the Vietnamese mixed chain stitch embroidery with other machine embroidery styles. If anyone has an example please show it. I don't think it's vintage Vietnamese.
irish Posted December 3, 2015 Share #5 Posted December 3, 2015 Cannot speak to the method of construction, however, Thailand issues a para sail qualification wing that shares some of the same design elements as this patch.
Mitch Posted December 3, 2015 Share #6 Posted December 3, 2015 I believe the patch has ties to USAF Survival training. I think the V is just a hyphen. Attached is a copy of a certificate from the Survival course in Okinawa. Notice in the lower right is the term para-sail. Also attached is a picture of the training by the certificates owner. Notice the parachute has similar markings. hope this helps. Regards, Mitch
