muddyboots Posted November 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 27, 2015 I got these the other day and it appears he enlisted in 1936 and served with the Marines at Base Headquarters Company, Mcb San Diego until 1940 and in 1941 was on the USS SHARK SS-174 from January 1941 to mid March 1941. And then to San Diego Naval Hospital from Nov 41 to Dec 41 when he was transferred to the 2nd Marine aircraft wing Hawaii where he arrived on the 22nd of Dec. He served with the 2nd aircraft wing till the end of the war. He was shipped overseas but to where I am not sure. I bet he made the tags himself especially the personalized tag. USdog Posted November 27, 2015 Share #4 Posted November 27, 2015 Nice grab. I saw those on ebay after they sold. Corpsman tags are really tough to find, especially attached to a marine unit.

Bob Hudson Posted November 29, 2015 Share #13 Posted November 29, 2015 He was a Warrant officer Pharmacist by the end of 1943. He muster rolls show him being overseas with the 2nd Marine Air Wing from at least Jnauary 1943 to April 1944. Track the 2nd MAW movements during that time and you'll know where is was in the Pacific. Here's his entry from Oct. 43 - he was an aide to the Wing Medical Officer and officer in charge of medical records.
Bob Hudson Posted November 29, 2015 Share #14 Posted November 29, 2015 His last entry in the USMC muster rolls is for April 1944 and it show him back in San Diego, now a Chief Pharmacist.

muddyboots Posted November 30, 2015 Author Share #17 Posted November 30, 2015 Thanks Bob for posting those and I know he was attached to MAG-21 in Hawaii in late Dec1941 and in April 1943 to Auckland New Zealand.
Bob Hudson Posted December 1, 2015 Share #18 Posted December 1, 2015 Thanks Bob for posting those and I know he was attached to MAG-21 in Hawaii in late Dec1941 and in April 1943 to Auckland New Zealand. The April 1944 Muster Roll that shows him back in the states would not have been found on a normal ancestry.com search because ancestry misspelled his first name when they transcribed the original documents: they had it as "Rarl" for that month. . muddyboots Posted December 1, 2015 Author Share #19 Posted December 1, 2015 I forgot about misspelled names. I usually check the letters to the left or right of the proper one. Thanks again Bob.
