WWII_GI Posted November 27, 2015 Share #2 Posted November 27, 2015 1944 dated canteen covers (non British made) are very rare. Not sure why, it's just impossible to find a 1944 dated canteen cover. -Steven
oldabewla Posted November 27, 2015 Share #3 Posted November 27, 2015 For the big D Day build up the British got most of the US contracts for most of the replacement canteen covers made in 1944. In my opinion though the US made 1944 dated covers were issued to new replacements boot camp GI's over here headed to the theater or war after D Day as they were needed remember tons of 1942 and 1943 covers were made and in the system in 1944 so no big need for new covers in 1944 This covers manufacturer is a easy maker to get there are far more rarer makers of 1944 covers also it's mint and myself a canteen cover collector soon as the water was splash on the cover it would stain making it hard to find mint examples. RustyCanteen Posted November 27, 2015 Share #6 Posted November 27, 2015 As others have already said, US made 1944 covers are difficult to find. The one in the link is a really nice one.
'Flage Guy Posted November 27, 2015 Share #7 Posted November 27, 2015 Not a bad price for one of those, especially in that condition! One Cover which is much tougher to find than even these are the '43-dated ones made in O.D.#7.
