Same guy?

attachicon.gif15th-Inf-Closeup.jpg  attachicon.gifHallers-Army-Officer-E.jpg

Nah... Guess not. Maybe related, but not the same man, in my opinion

On the back writing of the first photo, isn't SOKOL falcon in Polish?

That's funny. I thought that by regulation the blue uniform was not worn in Hawaii and the Philippines. No denying the photo stamp for Fort Shafter, though.

I thought I would try my hand at creating a thread of Pre-WWI portraits.

I will start off with this image identified simply as "Uncle Roll, World War One."  Probably taken at least five years prior to the US entry into WWI, Uncle Roll is wearing a cotton tunic with rimless M1902 buttons, fold-over collar, pointed cuffs and large patch pockets.

These I had trouble believing they were Ohio NG. Now I think they are also Polish-American Sokol.

Interesting on the two Army pals, two collar insignia disks on each side. Is that normal for the period?

The "double disc" pattern coat was introduced in 1909, in OD wool and OD cotton. This coat is an earlier khaki, worn with the double discs. Khaki went obsolete in 1913 except in the Philippines where they were worn until replaced, probably several years later.

Man there are some great images posted here!   I am really enjoying seeing and learning about these pre-WWI uniforms. Thanks to all who have posted.  I look forward to seeing more.

Here is one for today: Real photo postcard, ca. 1905 of a state infantry soldier armed with a Krag rifle, possibly from Duxbury, Mass. (according to collector's note on the back)

I don't think this man is from a military organization, but I could be wrong. Any ideas? Picture came from Ohio according to addresses on reverse.new030A.jpg new030.jpg

After scanning the close up, I realized how much the man in the 1912 dated picture looked like my father-in -law did back in 1945. Father in law was in 334th INF 84th INF DIV.
