1/35 Scale 128th Evac Dodge WC 57 with Nurses

This is the old Peerless Max/Italeri Dodge WC 57 Command Car and Trailer kit. This model depicts Nurses of the 128th Evacuation Hospital on the move in Europe sometime in the fall of 1944.

I have done enough tanks and combat vehicles and I wanted to do a model representing some of the lesser seen vehicles and support people. I looked at a lot of photos of WWII Nurses in the field and between the photos and the posts I read on the forum about Women's uniforms I am pretty sure that in the field the women wore a lot of male uniform items. So based on the wartime photos I just created the figures from the parts box.

The Nurse figures are bashed together using Tamiya, Airfix, Italeri male figures and Preiser female figure heads. The WC57 and the trailer are built straight out of the box.

I think there is only one set of US Military Women figures available put out by Master Box. The MB figures are very nice, I have a set, but they are only one Navy and one Army figure in dress uniforms. I wanted to depict Army Nurses in the field.

Anyway, here are a bunch of the model and some of photos that I used for reference.

Thanks for looking.

Dennis,

Another excellent model! I love this one! I also like how you made the items in the trailer. Thanks for honoring the nurses with such an amazing display.

Hey Dennis that is an exquisite model. Loved the nurses and their variations in uniforms. The vehicles are vehicles and are nicely done, but I especially like the trailer with the equipment.

I think that's what brought this excellent piece of work to life. All nurses serving now and those that served (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, etc.) have been well honored by your model.

Nice work!

Hi Lars,

No, the female heads are from the Preiser Adam and Eve figure sets. They are actually 1/32 or 54mm scale but the female figures in that set are a bit on the small side so they matched up pretty well with 1/35 scale figure bodies. I haven't seen the "Rubble Woman" set until I just followed your link, but there looks like a nice assortment of heads and they would have worked just as well.

I really like some of the figures that Preiser produces, they are alway good quality, I just wish they made more. I have the "Home Leave" set and I will get around to building those figures one day.

Not an often seen subject in military modeling Dennis. An excellent bit of research and modeling skills on display here. Thanks for sharing this well composed little tribute to the Army Nurses of WWII!
