Just found this nice set of bullion Pilot's Wings. White paper backing.

Not certain where it was made. Perhaps CBI ?

Comments most welcome.

I wouldn't rule out these being British made, some Brit bullion wings and patches have white paper backings.

Either way, they are very nice!.

Hi Wharf, It is Brit made, by the same company who made the mistake, to the delight of collectors who love unique wings, of thinking that our aerial gunner and radio operator wings were similar to the Brit made wing with the lettering in the escutcheon. You can see an example of the aerial gunner wing under my "Miles of Silk" thread which I have just added several bullion wings to.

I think you guys may be "overestimating" this wing a bit. I suspect it is a USAF vintage bullion wing. It is very nice, but I don't believe it is "theater-made" or WWII vintage.

Nice!I don't have any of the bullion Wings in my collection, but seeing examples such as the one posted here has increased my appreciation for them.

I have a few questions. How wide is this Wing?Is it full sized?

Were bullion Wings made in postwar Japan too?

Thanks everyone for your comments and information.

Wings are full size - 3 inch.

Difficult to say exactly when they were made, didn't come with an identified group.

Did not pay a crazy price for them ( as usual ). :D

Wharfmaster and mods, my apologies I have added the above wings to the wrong thread  I meant to post them on this one http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/249811-miles-of-silk-framed-by-bullion/page-2

Is it possible to either delete my posts or move them to the correct thread?.

Matt.

Matt, with some reluctance, I deleted the images of all seven of those nice bullion wings. I look forward to you reposting them in the intended thread. They are well worth another look!

Thanks Rusty, I will re-post the wings on the correct thread. Here are the images I meant to add to this thread which, although not wings, show how a white paper backing was used on British made bullion insignia during WWII.
