THAT GUY Posted September 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2015 I also picked up this 11th Airborne fatigue jacket, (doesn't look like HBT), this past weekend. I'm trying to find out more about it. I don't think it's a combat jacket due to the name tape but I could be wrong. Is there a way to find more about this guy? No serial number but the seller said that it belonged to his wife's dad who participated in some sort of raid with Pow s in Korea.
sgtdorango Posted September 22, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 22, 2015 Nice 11AB shirt!...if you can get a better pic of the wing and oval it tells what unit of the 11th he was in and i might be able to track him down in unit yearbooks etc...the 187th were involved in KW with a POW camp riot and at one point he could have been 187th and later transfered..mike

patches Posted September 23, 2015 Share #9 Posted September 23, 2015 There that's much better. The wear of the Name tape by itself over the left pocket is a mid 51 to late 53-early 54 trait, that it has the what I always call the M52 ranks means sometime in 1952 through 1953 worn. The shirt itself appears to be a early Army-Navy store/PX OD Sateen shirt, note the non stadard buttons for this model, issue ones had those Brown OD shade plastic rimmed buttons and not these type of hollowed metal tack buttons, seen the Burst of Glory tack buttons but not these types, though they could be found on issue M47 HBT shirts. patches Posted September 23, 2015 Share #10 Posted September 23, 2015 503rd Airborne Infantry assigned to 11th Airborne Division Fort Campbell Kentucky March 1951 to give the division three Infantry units. At this time it had only two, the 188th AIR and the 511th AIR. At the outbreak of the Korean War, 11th Abn Div had two of it's Infantry units, the 187th AIR and the 511th AIR, 187th AIR goes to Japan, with the 188th AIR replacing it.
