carbinephalen Posted December 1, 2017 Share #70 Posted December 1, 2017 Not to hijack, but this cup sold for an unknown amount ($10,000 OBO) on eBay recently It belonged to Lt. Col. Robert Lee "Bull" Wolverton Lt. Col. Robert Lee "Bull" Wolverton was the commander of the 3rd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, from 1942 until his death at Saint-Come-Du-Mont, Normondy on D-Day June 6th, 1944. Awards: Purple Heart, Legion of Merit European-African- Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Service Star and Invasion Arrowhead American Defence Medal. Its intetesting they made him a cup. Its fitting that it has Normandy engraved on the base. Perhaps for his wife?
warpath Posted December 1, 2017 Author Share #71 Posted December 1, 2017 The cups were engraved with the campaigns in which the officer served as a member of the 506th. Wolverton was KIA in Normandy so just that is on his cup. In Lipton's case the engraving was Germany on the base since he was an NCO prior to serving as an officer in the Regiment.
