Went to a local gun show today. Not a very big turn out which was good because you could walk up and down the aisles without bumping into everyone..

Found a few Theater Made Iraqi patches, a nice Vietnam era US Air force custom ribbon bar and a nice Vietnam era 352nd Fighter Squadron patch.

The ribbon bar is a little bit of a mystery. The ribbons are really nice but there are two Navy decorations on this rack. This is a hunch right now but the only Air Force Unit to have been awarded the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation was the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing for Operation El Dorado Canyon, on 15 April 1986 when F111's bombed Libya in response to several terror attacks that killed American service members..

The ribbon rack ribbons from bottom to top starting on the right:

Bottom: Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal (no 1960-Device), Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship,

2nd Row: Longevity Service Award with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Service with 2 campaign stars, National Defense Service

3rd Row: Combat Readiness, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Outstanding Unit Award with V Device and oak leaf cluster

4th Row: Navy Commendation, Air Medal with two silver oak leaf clusters and 3 bronze oak leaf clusters (14 awards) Distinguished Flying Cross with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.

The Theater made patches are the 101st Airborne with separate tab, the 4th Infantry Division with a dark green and brown variation that was reportedly the "combat patch or former wartime service patch that was developed but never approved for wear outside theater by the US Army.. (Not sure if this is true, but have seen several DCU's with the darker colored patch as a combat patch..

A desert tan 4th ID patch, a nice combat infantryman's badge with a nice border, 2 94th Air Defense Artillery Brigade patches, 1 light colored and 2 a brownish orange color,  7th Transportation Brigade and a 21st Support Command patch..

Not a bad day, it proves that Theater Made Iraqi patches are still out there and are quite cheap..

Enjoy the pictures

Leigh

The desert brown/green 4th ID patches are generally considered to be from the 4th ID's OIF 1 rotation around 2003. It was made to resemble the 4th ID's color insignia from WW2.

I'm thinking the rack was owned by a prior Navy person that went AF.I say this because there is the Navy Commendation medal.
