sundance Posted September 10, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2015 I read that Cutco started in 1949. That, however is the company currently using the name Cutco. I'm guessing they bought the name from Utica or bought Utica Knife.
FSBE Posted September 10, 2015 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2015 Pretty sure Utica Cutlery made Kabar's, Mk II's and Mk I's during WWII. This looks like either a Mk II or a Kabar. Post a pic pf the bottom of the pommel. That's always a determining factor in WWII versus post war knives. John
tankerman Posted September 10, 2015 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2015 From these photos it appears to be VN era.
bayonetman Posted September 10, 2015 Share #5 Posted September 10, 2015 This is a Knife, Combat (MIL-K-20277) the successor to the WW2 USN Mk 2 and USMC 1219c2. The markings are US over UTICA CUT. CO (Utica Cutlery Company). With the brown handle, it was made circa 1961-62.

bayonetman Posted September 10, 2015 Share #9 Posted September 10, 2015 The knife is definitely 1961-62 vintage. Utica did not make this style knife in WW2 - they were only made by Camillus, Ka-Bar, Robeson and Pal. One correctly described just sold on ebay last week for $152.50. Of course there is one without the sheath and in rougher condition, also described as Rare WW2 "Condition: Blade has heavy darkening & pitting. Knife has not been cleaned. Leather wrapped handle needs polishing and shows some wear. Buy It Now price is $1,000.

jw517 Posted September 24, 2015 Share #13 Posted September 24, 2015 I thought it was the first made of the type 2 per say. I read 1954 ? Two near mint examples sold a couple weeks ago for about 150.00 Utica had the first NEW contract for the MK 2 after Korea as far as I know. Then Camillus, and Conetta. jw517 Posted September 24, 2015 Share #14 Posted September 24, 2015 These are rather fleeting.. I don't see a lot come on EBay. I need a mint example myself, but thought 150.00 was a bit steep. Maybe I'm wrong!
sactroop Posted September 24, 2015 Share #15 Posted September 24, 2015 Two versions of the Utica Cut made under the MIL-K-20277 specification. Top knife shows the fungicide treatment that became part of the spec in 1962. Bottom knife belonged to a Late friend who received it in 1961. Note the change in the sheaths from 9 rivets to 7 also.
