MrGreen Posted September 5, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2015 Hi all,I am helping a very nice lady with the sale of this great Whitney rifle. I need so help on identifying it and ensuring that I help her get the greatest value for it. Are there any Model 1841 experts here that would not mind helping me out? This rifle looks original and does not have any conversions such as bayonet lug addition etc. Many thanks for all assistance or help to be pointed in the right direction. I would post more pic but the forum would not let me.
ron norman Posted September 7, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2015 There were 26,500 of this model made under contract from 1843 to 1855 Value. Range about 1200.00 in good cond. To 4000.00 in fine cond. From the photos I would guess in very good with a retail of around 1500.00 to 2500.00. A dealer or collector would usually pay around 50 to 60 % of the price. retread12345 Posted November 19, 2015 Share #3 Posted November 19, 2015 Is it in the original .54 cal?? Some were converted to cal .58 to provide ammunition uniformity during the CW,
jagjetta Posted November 19, 2015 Share #4 Posted November 19, 2015 Ron is correct, a total of 26,500. First contract (which yours appears to be) was 25,900. Second contract was only 600. He nailed it on the value, though maybe a bit generous on the evaluation. yours is in nice, untouched condition. Good date, though, if it is an 1844. John A-G.
