Hessian Posted August 30, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2015 I've been chasing this uniform (tunic and breeches) for about two years. After a nice pile of trade material I was finally able to secure it. As many of you know I'm pretty crazy for the USMC Machine Gun units of WW1. This is a "Holy Grail" of my Machine Gun collection and I wanted to share it. Still doing research on who the owner might have been as there is a partial name in the tailor label. The patch has seen it's purple fade out almost completely but I like it, gives it some character. *Please note the overseas cap was added to the tunic just for the photos and did not come with the uniform. dmert66 Posted August 30, 2015 Share #12 Posted August 30, 2015 Very nice. I've never dipped into WW1 collecting, but those uniforms always catch my eye. Might have to add at least one at some point.
usmcaviator Posted August 30, 2015 Share #13 Posted August 30, 2015 Nice to see that type of collar emblem in use by an officer, I have photos of them in use from 1920-1922 by mainly officers, but have also obtained them in enlisted lots. Any idea how long the owner served? It might help narrow these down to an earlier date. This variety I surmise was not very well liked by officers (no seperately applied continents) and too big for enlisted device. They come post and pin backed and in dress and service. The tunic aint bad either! Nice pick-up. Mike
Eric Queen Posted August 30, 2015 Share #14 Posted August 30, 2015 Duke, anything familiar about that SSI? Hand painted in, what I would bet was very small numbers. I think you could narrow it down to the company by using that patch.

I've only seen this style on officer tunics but I've seen a similar style in the 1920s gold dress version for enlisted. I defer to your knowledge on Corps devices. The tunic has never been punched for holes.

Brig Posted September 6, 2015 Share #25 Posted September 6, 2015 Spectacular uniform. Sure is a looker! One of these days I'll get around to adding a 2/6 WWI uniform to the collection, but until then I'll live vicariously through your finds in the WWI department!
