Kadet Posted August 29, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2015 I picked this piece up recently. I'm pretty confident it is a period modification to make it in to a leg/boot knife. The M6 scabbard is folded back on itself and wired at the corners, leaving a loop at the to for a strap. The top lip is also notched on each side. This lets the knife wedge down in the the metal plates, thus holding it in place. The handle also looks like it has seen a lot of action... Ronny67 Posted August 29, 2015 Share #3 Posted August 29, 2015 I spoke with a HQ/506 vet who jumped on D-day. He had riggers sew a sheath directly into his jump boot for his trench knife. He landed in water and the force drove the knife through the leather sheath and into his ankle, where the point broke off. The knife tip remained in his ankle for 3 days before he could be evacuated.
