Oldmarine06 Posted August 28, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2015 While pouring over my late father's records found a couple of interesting notations. During WW II is was a member of US Navy Armed Guard and served as a Gunner's Mate and Gun Captain on two T-2 Tankers seeing heavy action in the South and Central Pacific (1943-45). He was later a Turret Captain on the USS Boxer (1947). What I am looking: Navy Trade Patch, Turret Captain US Navy "AG" sleeve lettering. During the 1950's he was in the Ready Reserve and rated as "ESF" 2/c,1/c and CPO, what is a ESF??? Does anybody have insignia for these for sale? What do they look like? He retired from the USNR in 1968 as a DCC Any help is appreciated RS Tom

David Minton Posted August 31, 2015 Share #4 Posted August 31, 2015 I assume you are looking for rating badges (with chevrons) or just the specialty marks? If you want rating badges, which ones do you want for each of the three specialties? What color background (blue or white for 1c-3c). Gunner's mate (right facing) are not hard to find. Turret Captain are not rare, but usually in $10-$20 for 1c and more for Chief (2c and 3c were not authorized), depending on color and condition. Specialist F I'm not sure about, but not too expensive. For the distinguishing marks, gun captain is very common. There are ton on eBay all the time. I probably have some extras. The Armed Guard is very difficult to come buy, in my opinion. It is one of the few distinguishing marks I don't own.
carnut63 Posted November 30, 2015 Share #5 Posted November 30, 2015 If you cant find one I am sure the AG would not be hard to reproduce from some original scrap material and an embroiderer.
